What a rollercoaster of emotion that ultimately ended in disappointment. Welcome to derby day.
Of course Everton and Big Sam got what they came for and then some. Klopp’s frustration boiling over in the post match interview will have broadened Sam’s smile even further (if that’s even possible).
But the Reds only have themselves to blame.
Yes everyone will point to the Mane chance / passing opportunity just before half time but come on, let’s take a quick look at the match stats from Liverpool’s perspective:
Shots on Target: 3
Firstly, if we can’t convert that amount of possession into goals, with apparently the nation’s best forward line then there’s something seriously wrong.
Secondly, 23 shots and 3 on target. I’m not even going to comment.
Big Sam came to frustrate us, and it pretty much worked. But there’s absolutely no surprise whatsoever, he’s done this his whole career to better sides.
The sight of him in chuckling in his interview makes me so frustrated.
But then that’s what he wants too. He knows his game, he has a plan and more often than not it works.
This is the man that should have been taking England to the World Cup next year. Seriously.
But then if he’d frustrated the likes of Germany, France et al with these tactics and got us through to a World Cup final or similar, would we be happy.
God only knows.
But all I can say is that his nonsense tactics, his parking the bus, his anti-football stuff got Everton some sort of result on Sunday. And Liverpool can only have themselves to blame. (I actually don’t blame Klopp – my finger is pointed at the players).
Onwards and upwards with West Brom arriving on Wednesday night.
