There are a number of Liverpool loanees who are currently plying their trade across the football league with the likes of Corey Whelan, Herbie Kane and Connor Randall all getting regular game-time up and down the divisions. Harry Wilson is another Red who has temporarily left Anfield in order to gain some much-needed experience in the second tier and the Welshman has been mightily impressive so far at Pride Park. The midfielder’s future looks bright and it is unlikely to be too long until he’s pushing for a start in the Premier League.
Harry Wilson joined Derby this summer alongside fellow Premier League loanee Mason Mount and he’s made a rip-roaring start to life under Frank Lampard. He’d previously made just one senior appearance for the Reds and Jurgen Klopp felt that the midfielder needed to continue his development further down the football pyramid.
Liverpool added Naby Keita and Fabinho this summer which further increased competition for places but it also greatly reduced the Welsh international’s chances of featuring in the top flight anytime soon. However, on current form, it’s hard to ignore the midfielder and he will surely be pushing for a place next year.
The 21-year old has netted four times in all competitions and has developed a penchant for the spectacular. His free-kick left Sergio Romero flat-footed during their 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Carabao Cup with former Ram, Darren Bent, saying “I don’t think I’ve seen a better free-kick, ever”. The Reds aren’t exactly short of set-piece takers but Harry Wilson’s pinpoint accuracy cannot be overlooked and it surely won’t be long before he’s scoring against the Red Devils in the top flight.

Many young Premier League players have shown plenty of promise and been talked about as the ‘the next big thing’ but have subsequently failed to make the grade. There are a number of former Liverpool players who were tipped for a bright future but have sunk without trace. However, the hype surrounding Wilson looks entirely justified. The club clearly rate Wilson highly and he signed a long-term contract with the Merseyside outfit this summer. He’s enjoyed working with Jurgen Klopp and the German boss was adamant that this loan spell will help him stake a claim for a first-team position next season.
The Reds aren’t short of midfielders and the return of Adam Lallana has further boosted their options. The recent form of Xherdan Shaqiri is another huge positive for the club and squad depth will be vitally important during the upcoming hectic festive period. Liverpool are challenging for the title once again and can be backed at 11/4 in the Premier League betting markets but they face stiff competition from current holders Manchester City. After remaining unbeaten in their opening eleven matches, Reds fans are dreaming of a realistic title challenge and they undoubtedly have the squad depth to compete this year.
Wilson is enjoying life in Derbyshire and believes that the Rams’ stylish approach is the perfect vessel for his attacking instincts. They are an exciting, young squad who play with freedom and without fear. The 21-year old has an extremely bright future at Anfield and, although he will have to await his turn, he currently appears to be in the perfect place to continue his development.
